editorial ambivalence by brancoprata

For this photography essay, our starting point was the word “ambivalence” and the meaning behind it. So what’s the definition of this word and why do we feel so drawn to it? In a very basic way, ambivalence is the coexistence within an individual of positive and negative feelings towards the same action. Like everything in life, it’s normal to have mixed reactions about everything – even marriage!

We wanted a raw, honest exercise on a relationship between two people: true feelings that overcome the flaws; heartfelt words spoken that make you forget everything else; and, the acknowledgement that perfection is tangible only when you realize that your strength is built on the good and the bad. We wanted our images to focus on the couple and the space – the actions and movements between the two and their reactions to the scene.

We chose a simple and discreet environment with unpretentious details so the couple stood out. With this type of focus in life, it allows us to realize that indecision or uncertainty are also part of the path to reach a joyful outcome!

SIMPLE EUROPEAN WEDDING IDEAS IN A WHITE AND GREEN PALETTE

This venue located in the North of Portugal dates from the beginning of 12th century. An old Monastery embellished by perfectly designed paths and artistic fountains has a graceful garden with a small pond, where you can still see the old retaining wall of stone. The massive walls, with various colors and unique textures of this stone Monastery, are absolutely captivating and inspired us for this editorial and of course, were the perfect framing for every image!

A mix of old and new, a truly classic feel with contemporary touches, modern accents paired with a romantic young couple completely in love with each other. Above all, we wanted to showcase a simple elegance that follows no trends. In a time where everything is a click away, we wanted to take a step back and truly appreciate the importance of the 5 senses. To experience each and every one of them: to taste a sweet flavor, to truly see and hear what’s around us, to take the time to feel every texture of every wall, of every stone, of every door and to smell every plant, every rose garden. Because the most important and significant moments in life get more real when you acknowledge everything that surrounds you.

Floral Design: Classical destination wedding in Portugal

A more classical approach for this Summer wedding with blush, beautiful flowers, gold touches and hints of blue. The couple didn't want us to use a lot of greenery, so that flowers could stand out! Also, we were inspired by Portuguese architecture, especiall the beautiful stone staircases that surrounded the venue. Enjoy.
