new year, new challenges, new goals

For the last 3 years, we completely changed our attention away from the blog... ok, we finally said it! With all the "new" social media platforms available these days it's getting more difficult to find the will to stop by and update the blog! And to be honest with you we weren't planning on post anything today but we thought it would be a great way to start 2019.

We are currently working on a new website, and althought we still love the aesthetic of this one, we feel it is time for a change! We have many goals for 2019 and one of them is to focus more on our floral design services... people always assume we are only a wedding photography studio, when Brancoprata is SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT! This being said, it is time to show case more about the aesthetic of our work, the wedding we design and shoot, the campaigns we've been working on, the One to Ones we've been doing for the last 3 years... it's a long list of projects that need to see day light and we feel the new website will truly help us with that!

So, stick around, it's going to be a hell of a ride!

editorial ambivalence by brancoprata

For this photography essay, our starting point was the word “ambivalence” and the meaning behind it. So what’s the definition of this word and why do we feel so drawn to it? In a very basic way, ambivalence is the coexistence within an individual of positive and negative feelings towards the same action. Like everything in life, it’s normal to have mixed reactions about everything – even marriage!

We wanted a raw, honest exercise on a relationship between two people: true feelings that overcome the flaws; heartfelt words spoken that make you forget everything else; and, the acknowledgement that perfection is tangible only when you realize that your strength is built on the good and the bad. We wanted our images to focus on the couple and the space – the actions and movements between the two and their reactions to the scene.

We chose a simple and discreet environment with unpretentious details so the couple stood out. With this type of focus in life, it allows us to realize that indecision or uncertainty are also part of the path to reach a joyful outcome!

indoors maternity session by brancoprata

Architecture allowed light to enter this space, carving shadows and creating an atmospheric design, perfect for this very modern and fashion oriented maternity shoot. We really love these images, since we believe they are a true reflection of this very stylish soon to be mother.

couple shoot by the sea

When Audrey told us she was coming to Porto and wanted André to take photos of her and her boyfriend Nicolas, we felt not only excited but also honored. We met Audrey a couple of years ago in Paris and since then we never lost contact! Audrey is also a film photographer known for her unmistakable fashion house-inspired aesthetic, so it was quite easy to shoot her and Nicolas.

The chemistry between the two is more than obvious, which made everything even easier to shoot! And on top of everything, the weather decided to help us, and a  absolutely magical sunset with a mystical fog added even more romanticism to this session and consequently helped translate that almost poetic atmosphere of a late afternoon on a beach in Matosinhos, here in our lovely hometown, Porto.

We hope you enjoy these images as much as we do!

engagement shoot in lisbon by brancoprata

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and one of the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as Paris, London or even Rome, by centuries. It was ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, and then it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century, until in 1147, Afonso Henriques and the Crusaders reconquered the city. Unlike most capital cities, Lisbon's status as the capital of Portugal has never been granted or confirmed officially, either by statute or in written form. For the last couple of years, Lisbon has been invaded by turists, seekingk beautiful architecture & monuments, as well as great food, wine and of course, fado.

Jacquelyn and Justin visit Lisbon last year and decided it was the perfect location for their engagement session. We've been following Jacquelyn's work and blog, Lark & Linen, for a long time now, so we immediately felt overjoyed about finally meeting Jacquelyn in person.
