Holiday Escape in the heart of Alentejo

2020-08-20

It’s that time of the year when we are all consumed by wanderlust, and in need of some time off.

That being said, today we are a bit reminiscent about our past holidays. So we thought it would be fun to remember our 2018  holiday escape to the heart of Alentejo.

The Alentejo owes its name to its geographical location. The word actually means “Além Tejo” which stands for: Beyond the Tagus. And  the region which is the  largest in Portugal, is bounded in the north by the River Tagus.

In Alentejo, you will be able to witness the greatest mix of cultures, since this region has been inhabited by a number of peoples, including the Gothic, the Carthaginians, the Celts, the Visigoths, the Romans and the Arabs.

For our holiday retreat, we choose Sobreiras Alentejo Country Hotel. And we spent our time there relaxing and enjoying the surroundings, and of course, the magnificent views.

And we were able to finally, disconnect from work.

It truly was an unique experience of tranquility and leisure where we were able to enjoy Alentejo’s superb cuisine, fine wines and hospitable people.

Above all, we were able to enjoy silence. We will never forget those quiet nights spent at our balcony, just zipping a glass of wine and gazing at the starts.

During the day we spent hours by the pool. And occasionally we went on little adventures to discover the region. The landscape is breathtaking to say the least. And André couldn’t keep his camera away.

It was perfect. And the holiday escape in the heart of Alentejo made us feel relaxed and ready to take on a new year.
