Who is up for an inspiring day in Mykonos, Greece?
Today we are taking you on a journey to this unforgettable place. We went there two years ago to photograph this wedding, and we completely fell in love with the place. There are so many interesting facts about Mykonos, so here’s a few things about this unique island.
For instance, did you know that Mykonos’s nickname is “The Island of the Winds”? And that is due to the very strong winds that usually blow on the island?
Also, there are more than 600 churches and small chapels at Mykonos. Most of them date back to the Byzantine times. It is estimated that there is one church per local family! Mykonos Town alone hosts 60 of them, with Panagia Paraportiani being the most famous and most photographed one.
Little Venice is one of the most romantic and idyllic spots in Mykonos and impresses with the colorful houses whose balconies literally hang above the sea.
Also, the windows and doors in Mykonos must be painted in blue, green, or red. So that the authenticity of the island is maintained. Back in the day, sailors used blue to paint their windows and doors. But farmers painted them green. While red was used from everyone else. The walls are usually whitewashed. As a result, there’s a beautiful contrast with the colorful doors and windows.
