A flatlay is a great way to start our wedding inspiration and our creative process when designing an event.
It allow us to experiment not only with images but also with various materials and textures that we can incorporate in our projects.
This technique is a great way to keep us focused and on point with our main goal. Once we decide which group of inspiring images we are using, we then incorporate several materials that work with the vibe of those images and match the aesthetic perfectly.
Starting a mood board is always the hardest part. However, once we define the starting point for the type of mood and style we are going for, the rest pretty much fall into place. And that’s where we normally have fun.
A mood board also helps us to visualize the design of the main areas of the event. Like ceremony set up, cocktail or dinner room… when brainstorming, we can always refer back to our flatlay mood board. It allow us to have a better sense of the finished space, and help us to identify pieces that will complement the look as we move into the selection and specification process.
These flatlays have their place in our wedding design process, because they are such an eye-catching, compact and informative snapshot of a proposed design. And it supports our vision when communicating the design, with their lighthearted display of images, materials, textures, styles and colours.
