How wedding destinations and venues inspire design and aesthetics

The choice of wedding destinations and venues holds significant importance for couples, setting the tone and atmosphere for their special day. At BrancoPrata, we cherish the opportunity to work with diverse destinations and venues, as they represent a great source of inspiration for both our wedding photography and floral design & styling.

So this week, we’ll explore how the wedding destination and the venue influence our creative process and the cohesive aesthetics we strive to achieve.

Choosing wedding destinations and venues: the Photography point of view

As wedding photographers, our approach revolves around embracing the venue’s natural beauty to capture moments that resonate with the couple and their surroundings.

Understanding the venue’s light throughout the day is crucial, as it allows us to make the best of natural lighting for enchanting images. Whether indoors or outdoors, we explore the space, looking for romantic corners for portraits of the couple, seeking unique backdrops and architectural elements to enhance the narrative of each shot. The way the light enters through a certain window, or the shadows we will have, can help create images that actually breathe in the space where we are working, making sure every photo is unique.

Drawing inspiration from the venue’s decor style, we incorporate its essence into our photography, ensuring that every detail contributes to the cohesive visual story. After all, whether we like it or not, the decor will be present in most images. So we might as well use it to our advantage and let it be a source of inspiration for capturing all the details, especially when the bride and groom are getting ready. For example, the existing architecture can be well-framed to photograph the shoes or the dress, and the furniture can help create interesting compositions in family portraits.

The more we explore the space, the more we can make it part of the narrative of the images we create. That’s why even when we work in a place for the first time, we always make sure to visit and explore it, with time and attention, before starting to shoot. Living the space, feeling it, and making the most of what it has to offer, helps us a lot when photographing such a special day.

The Floral Design point of view

As floral designers, respecting the venue’s space is of paramount importance for us and essential for creating compositions that coexist harmoniously with the surroundings.

Our aim is always for our design to “live naturally” in the space. We find inspiration not only within the venue and existing architecture, but also in the region’s natural beauty, such as gardens, landscapes, and seasonal elements. The time of year the event takes place plays a particularly important role in inspiration and colour choices. Whether we use the golds of Fall or the vibrant colors of Spring. Even if we decide to go for something more minimalist, that brings us back to the bare trees in Winter. By analysing the colours, species, and scenery, we curate floral arrangements that breathe naturally in the space, instead of fighting against it.

As with photography, the way the light behaves in the venue is also key, as this light will be an integral part of our floral designs. By leveraging the light within the venue, we can strategically position our designs to enhance the ambiance and create an awe-inspiring first impression for guests. On the wedding day, the first impact guests have of the venue is crucial to us. And if we direct our attention to how the light behaves, we will be able to use it to our advantage when creating and placing our flowers.

The venue and the area where it is located will always be an inexhaustible source of inspiration that ends up having a huge impact on the choice of pieces that we will use. Whether it’s floral compositions, candles to be used and their supports, or any type of furniture that we will bring to incorporate into the project.

As you see, the wedding destination and venue hold immense influence over our photography and floral design at BrancoPrata. Understanding the venue’s characteristics, lighting, and decor style enables us to craft cohesive and captivating visuals that reflect the couple’s love story and the essence of the surroundings. By embracing the venue’s natural beauty, we ensure that every element, from the candid moments captured to the floral compositions, contributes to an unforgettable and harmonious wedding experience.

The photography was done by BrancoPrata and Lounge Fotografia. Floral design and styling by BrancoPrata. The ceremony took place at Quinta do Vallado.
